$6.5 Million Nursing Home Abuse Settlement
Mariner Health Care, Inc. has been required to pay $6.5 million in damages
to the estate of Charles Edwards, a nursing home patient who was in
the care of its Greeenwood Health & Rehabilitation Center. The Mississippi
jury found that Edwards was a victim of substantial neglect.

Wisconsin Woman May Face Felony Charges for Elder Abuse
A health care worker making a routine call on an 87-year-old woman in
Washington County, Wisconsin, noticed bruises on her arms. When asked
about the bruises, the elderly woman responded that her caretaker had
caused them. The accused, a relative of the victim, may be charged with
“abuse of a vulnerable adult.”
